13s finish state tourney 1-2
The South Tahoe All Star 13s ended their charge with a final 21-10 loss against Fallon last Tuesday to finish 1-2 in the state Babe Ruth baseball tournament in Sparks.
Tied 2-2 in the second inning, Fallon scored four in the third to South Tahoe’s two.
Held scoreless in the fourth, Fallon then jumped ahead to score 10 more in the fifth.
South Tahoe made a brief rally scoring five more in the bottom of the inning to come within one.
But Fallon opened up in the sixth inning to score eight runs. They scored three more in the seventh.
Chris Diana pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on four hits and walking six. David Schue pitched two innings, allowed five runs on three hits and four walks
Thomas Crist and Ian Rice combined to allow 11 runs and one walk.
Rice made the last three outs by strikeout.
South Tahoe made 13 errors and left 7 batters on base without scoring.
Rice led South Tahoe hitting a perfect 4 for 4 — making four of the team’s nine hits — earning one RBI and slapping one double.
“The kids played good until the one inning,” said team manager Chuck Diana. “We had a bunch of errors and gave up 8 runs and it kind of got to us then.”
Other than that, Diana said the kids played great.
