A great day on the green

The team of Tim Borge, Christian Borge, Sam Decaro and Roger Crist hold the lead after the first day of the 1997 Edgewood Tahoe Community Days high school booster tournament.

The four fired a 59 in the scramble format on Sunday, edging Larry Goodnight, Michael Dunn, Rusty Hendrick and Mike Leahy by one stroke. Jeff Homola, John O’Connor, Ken Kinsman and Glen Phillips are three behind going into today’s final round.

Four players each won $100 in closest-to-the-pin contests. Bob Wickham landed it a scant 1-foot, 6-inches from the cup on No. 5, just missing the hole-in-one prize of a 1997 Chevy Malibu from Terry Libbon Motors. Betty Colescott put it 6-feet away on No. 7, with Matt Bernard at 9-feet, 1-inch on No. 12 and Beth Juri at 4-feet on No. 17.

Thirty-six foursomes teed off in support South Tahoe and Whittell high school’s booster clubs. For the sixth straight year Park Cattle Company, which owns Edgewood, will donate all of the money generated from the tourney.
