Amidst fresh snow, Heavenly Mountain Resort kicks off 2016-17 season with opening day on Wednesday (photos)
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Heavenly Mountain Resort ushered in winter with its opening day Wednesday, Nov. 23. Skiers and snowboarders made the first turns of the 2016-17 season on fresh snow at the South Shore resort.
Snowmaking efforts during the week leading up to opening day were bolstered by new snow early Wednesday morning. The Nevada side of the mountain was open for action by 9:30 a.m., with a line at the Heavenly Gondola filled with those seeking fresh tracks.
The deadline to purchase a season pass has been extended to Sunday, Dec. 4, and local options include the Tahoe Value Pass for $479, Tahoe Local Pass for $569 and Epic Pass for $849. Heavenly is online at http://www.skiheavenly.com.
