And the Wynn-ers are…

The John Wynn Open champions didn’t miss many birdie attempts on Thursday afternoon at Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Dave Berman of South Lake Tahoe, Johnny Myers of Zephyr Cove, Johnny Dorame of Incline Village and John Keltner of Placerville sank 13 birdies in the 18-hole best-ball scramble. However, they thought that one they did miss from 10 feet on the final hole cost them a chance of winning the tournament sponsored by the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and Tahoe Daily Tribune.

“I thought 57 would win it,” Myers said.

But their 13-under par 58 was just enough to secure the title as a foursome came in with 59 and two groups carded 60s.

The winning team unselfishly gave most of the credit for the victory to Dorame because of his familiarity with the course. Dorame is the director of instruction for the Nike Golf Learning Center.

The tournament is the chamber’s main fund-raising event, with several thousand dollars going to the general fund to support visitor information services and to support various community projects throughout the year.

Longest drive was won by Jon Hetherton, closest to the pin went to Kevin Rhambi and Rick Angelossi won the pretournament putting contest.
