A’s down the Rangers
Thomas Hunter nearly became the second A’s player this season to hit for the cycle in South Tahoe Babe Ruth action recently.
Hunter was a single short of duplicating the feat of Mike Blowers, his team’s big-league namesake, as the A’s downed the Rangers, 13-6. Hunter homered in the first inning, tripled in the third and doubled in the fifth, all while scoring four runs and driving in four. He fanned in his final plate appearance.
Teammate Anthony Miranda bashed two doubles while Peter Chirapotti singled twice, scored three times and tossed a complete game.
A.J. Lauper and Tony Brillante each hit twice in the loss.
Yankees 18, Rockies 11
Pitcher Jared Uppendahl used six runs spotted him in the first two innings to pick up the win. He also had three hits, including a double and triple, while driving in two and scoring four.
Jake Bobman added three doubles, four RBIs and scored four. Ryan Schue touched home four times.
Mike Inch, Marty Meyers and Tyler Bradford had two hits apiece for the Rockies.
Marlins 16, Pirates 4
Ben Troglia held the Pirates scoreless through the first four frames in the rout. He was also hit by a pitch three times. Mike Tillson and Cory Poulen each had two hits.
T.J. Prevost and Bret Schussel each smacked three hits, but the Pirates stranded 10 runners.
Cardinals 23, Rangers 9
Ryan Griffith, who earned the win and scored five times, and Carlos Romero each had four hits, including triples, as the Cards pounded 22 hits. Phil Griffith had two doubles in three hits, while Matt Connelly and Cory Harris added a trio of basers.
Tommy Araujo had four singles and scored twice for the Rangers.
A’s 18, Diamondbacks 10
Thomas Hunter and Anthony Miranda each had four hits, including a pair of triples each, helping Tyler Tucker, who also had three hits, to earn the win. Peter Chirapotti doubled and tripled in three hits.
Jo Jo Miller smacked three hits for the D-Backs. Tyson Frederick added two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs. Nate Fletcher, James Alsbury and Alex Sweringer each hit it twice.
