Babe Ruth All-Stars edge Elko
The South Tahoe 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth All-Stars beat Elko 7-5 on Monday night to advance in the Northern Nevada state tournament in Reno.
South Tahoe was scheduled to play Reno West on Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time. A win against Reno West would put South Tahoe into the final game of the loser’s bracket today, with the winner of that game advancing to the overall championship on Thursday.
Free physicals for Vikings on Aug. 3
Tahoe Family Physicians will offer free physicals to South Tahoe High athletes on Aug. 3. Students must have a physical verified in order to try out for STHS teams. Physicals are valid for up to four years.
The examinations will begin at 5 p.m. Tahoe Family Physicians is located at 1090 Third St.
Santa Barbara duo wins volleyball tournament
The team of Jeff Minc and Aaron Wachtfogel won the Lake Tahoe Beach Volleyball AAA Tournament at Zephyr Cove on Saturday.
Minc and Wachtfogel, who live in Santa Barbara, beat Kjell Nilsson and Tate Walthal of Santa Cruz in a final match played in front of a crowd of 300 people.
The winners went undefeated, while Nilsson and Walthal lost their first game and were forced to battle through the losers’ bracket in the double-elimination tournament. Sean Rosenthal and Larry Whitt, who play as a team on the professional circuit, split up and produced disappointing results. Whitt teamed up with a Chris Isaacs to come in fifth, while Rosenthal, playing with Dale Smith, finished seventh.
