If the first game of the South Tahoe Babe Ruth baseball playoffs is any indication, the 2001 playoffs will exciting to the end.

In a game that pitted the South Tahoe Plumbing Supply Rockies against the Sierra-at-Tahoe Pirates, both teams battled it out until the final innings before the Rockies prevailed 10-9.

The Rockies went into the fifth inning trailing 8-1 and had just allowed four runs in the fourth.

But the Rockies answered with nine runs to take a 10-8 lead.

The big blow during the rally, which featured five walks, was a base hit by Kyle Olsen.

The single by Olsen drove in a pair of runs. Chris Shapiro also drove in two runs.

The Pirates pushed the lead to four runs in the fourth. Kyle Jones drove in a run with a bases-loaded feilder’s choice. While Ryan Buchan, Tyler Corey, Kevin Woodman and Haven Wilvers all forced home runs with walks.

With the win the Rockies will face the Barton Memorial Yankees at 5 p.m. today at Todd Fields.
