Barna on a hitting crusade in Idaho

Staff report

South Tahoe High softball coach Rich Barna had the opportunity to watch his daughter, Jill, play for Northwest Nazarene University on Wednesday in Nampa, Idaho.

Jill, a former STHS player, made her pop proud, smacking a two-run homer to center field against Humboldt State. Barna, a catcher, was 3 for 5.

Humboldt State (25-1) swept the doubleheader 6-0 and 13-2.

Northwest Nazarene, however, bounced back to inflict similar beatings on Walla Walla on Friday.

Trisha DeSimone pitched a perfect game as NNU won the opener 13-0 and the numbers were similar as the Crusaders won game two 9-0.

Barna continued her hot hitting against Walla Walla, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs in the opening game. She had a run-scoring double during NNU’s six-run first inning and a RBI single in the second inning.

In game two, Barna had a single in four trips to the plate.
