Barsby sweeps Tahoe disc tournaments

Gregg Barsby still is the king.

Barsby, who won the King of the Lake disc golf tournament earlier this summer, completed his Tahoe sweep with a win at the Tahoe Pro-Am tournament last weekend. He finished the 90-hole tournament at 243, two strokes better than fellow Grass Valley resident Geoff Lissaman in the pro open division.

Lissaman’s brother, Johnny, won the pro master (over 40) division, while David Malolepsky took the pro grandmaster (over 50) division.

Two locals, Chris Robbins and Matt Egan, will use the Pro-Am as a springboard to the World Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, next month. Robbins finished ninth in pro open, while Egan was second in pro master. They are the first two players who learned the game in Tahoe to be invited to the World Championships.

In the amateur ranks, Truckee’s Jere Eshelman won the advanced division with a score of 266, beating two players by four strokes. The tournament was the next-to-last amateur event for Eshelman, who will play at the Amateur World Championships in August before turning pro.

Todd Farris won the intermediate division with a 252, as he and Eric Edwards (264) both shot well enough to win the advanced division. Brian Lipe took the advanced master division by beating Dan Thrift by five strokes, while Cory Carlson won the recreational division.
