In Tuesday’s Northern Nevada 4A league baseball games, the two teams that met at South Tahoe’s home field today combined for 36 runs.

While South Tahoe (2-11) fell short – 22-16 – in a home slugfest against Douglas, Fallon (8-6) beat Carson 20-13 in Churchill County. Still, Vikings manager Doug Russell called Fallon, his opponent at Todd Fields today, a solid defensive team.

“I expect something a little lower-scoring than this,” Russell said Tuesday.

Fallon’s biggest star on Tuesday, though, was on offense. Matt Chicvara went 5-5 and batted in five runs to lead the Greenwave to a league win.

South Tahoe challenged Douglas after falling behind early, but couldn’t recover, even with ace Ryan Cullen drawing the start. Today, Jarred Uppendahl (1-2), the pitcher of record in South Tahoe’s March 9 win over Elko, startsat home. Russell said Uppendahl is throwing well. And the Vikings skipper certainly hasn’t counted his team out with the junior on the mound.

“Another good performance by him, and we should be in the game,” Russell said.

The Greenwave and Vikings open their season series at 3:30 p.m. today at Todd Fields.
