Basher wins again

Lake Tahoe Community College’s Lindsay Basher and Grant Carter continued their sprint to the finish with a win and a runner-up finish, respectively, at Golden Valley Conference cross country meet Oct. 27 in Oroville, Calif.

Basher won the women’s 3-mile course in 20 minutes, 31 seconds. Teammate Tashia Steele was second in 21:56.

Butte’s Aaron Van Order beat Carter by a nose in the men’s 3-mile race as each posted times of 16:14.

“Grant just stayed with Aaron and felt he could have outkicked him, but decided not to because it was Aaron’s home meet,” said LTCC coach Terry Adams-Schmidt.

Two other LTCC men placed among the top 10 in the 13-runner field. Frank Kuchemeister was ninth in 18:15 and Mike De La Rosa 10th in 18:33.

The Kokanee are preparing for the GVC Championships on Friday at Lassen College in Susanville, Calif. The meet begins at 3 p.m.

“It looks like we’re coming to our peak as scheduled, and we’re going to start tapering and doing some track and speed work,” said Adams-Schmidt on Sunday in preparation for the championships.

The top half of the men’s and women’s field at the conference championships advance to the Northern California Championships Nov. 11 in Rocklin.
