Benton wins discus state championship

Zephyr Cove’s Cali Benton earned a state champion title at the NIAA Div. IV state track meet at Çarson High School Saturday.

Benton, a junior at Sierra Lutheran High School in Carson City, placed first in discus with a throw of 101 feet.

Benton also finished third in the triple jump at 31 feet, 9.75 inches; and sixth in the long jump with 14 feet, 5.25 inches.

Sierra Lutheran won the overall team title in both boys and girls. The girls scored an overall 129 and girls scored 114.
