All 600 students at Bijou Community School chanted “Kiss the goat!” — and Cindy Martinez, Bijou’s Principal, got the nerve to do just that. After promising to kiss a pig (the pig got sick, so a goat was its substitute) if Bijou Students raised $20,000 or more at their annual walk-a-thon, Martinez made good on her word in front of the entire student body last Thursday.

Bijou students went above and beyond, raising $27,000 for the PTA that uses the funds for field trips, student enrichment programs, beautification projects and teacher supplements. To make the day even better, seven lucky teachers were drawn in a raffle to also kiss the goat since the students raised $7,000 more than $20,000 — fifth grade teacher Bob Hickman went so far as to bring fresh breath spray, which he used before stooping down and kissing the goat.

Bijou students worked hard for their reward, but boy was it worth it. The MPR at Bijou had never heard so much applause and cheering! Congratulations to Bijou students and thank you to everyone who contributed — including the STHS football players who came out to walk with the students at the event.
