Bruso a Korean League All-Star

Steve Yingling

At every level of basketball Brian Bruso has been all-league or all-conference. So it should come as no surprise that in his first season of professional ball, Bruso is an all-star.

Bruso, who was instrumental in leading South Tahoe High to its last state basketball title in 1992, will play in the Korean Basketball League’s All-Star game on Sunday night in Korea. The University of San Diego graduate is one of only four Americans who will take part in the contest.

“I was a bit surprised I was one of the four Americans selected to the team. I was actually looking forward to having the day off,” said Bruso, whose team is coming off a hectic schedule, which included seven games in 11 days.

His double-double numbers through the first part of the season show why the 6-foot-7 was selected an all-star. Bruso has been particularly hot of late. In KwangJu Flamans’ past five games – all victories – Bruso has averaged 25 points and 14 rebounds.

In his most recent performance, Bruso netted 31 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as Flamans trounced first-place Kia by 22 points.

“I started to shoot more perimeter shots and have even drilled 3-of-4 three-points goals,” Bruso said.

Streaking Flamans has a 16-12 record and sits in third place in the 10-team league.
