Bruso loses Huntsville debut

Tribune and Stars reports

Greg Bruso dropped to 1-2 in team debuts for the 2003 season.

The former South Tahoe High pitcher lost his first start for the Huntsville Stars of the Southern League on Monday night in Huntsville, Ala.

Bruso allowed four hits, two earned runs and an uncharacteristic four walks in the Stars’ 7-1 defeat to Southern League-leading Birmingham.

With the help of a balk and an error, the Barons took a 2-0 lead in the second. Birmingham used a walk and two singles to make it 3-0 in the third, chasing Bruso, who was traded by the San Francisco Giants to the Milwaukee Brewers a week ago.

Bruso struck out two as his overall minor league record for the 2003 season slipped to 12-10. He has also pitched in Norwich, Conn., and San Jose.

Huntsville (33-30) entered Tuesday night’s game 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Barons.
