Burqueno homers twice in Giant win
Nick Sexton tripled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and Sergio Burqueno homered twice for the Giants in their 11-8 triumph over the Red Sox in a South Tahoe Little League game on Monday.
The No. 8 hitter Sexton, making a pitch to move up in the batting order, also stroked two singles and scored twice..
Chad Kaassamani had three singles and scored three runs, and Cody Gibson doubled twice for the winners. Kolby Eymann reached base four times, including two on base hits.
Connor McKeen doubled and singled and scored two Red Sox runs. Andrew Noll tripled twice, and Jared Fajman and Jared Lindner each swatted a pair of singles.
A’s 5, Angels 3
Ty Sprock pitched a complete-game five-hitter and struck out 12 as the A’s won.
The A’s scored all of the runs they needed during a four-run first inning. Sprock and Liam Loftis hit doubles during the rally.
Cale Quistgard, Gabe Carranza and Tyler Dill hit back-to-back doubles during the Angels’ two-run third inning. Jarret Young retired the final eight batters he confronted.
Dodgers 9, Red Sox 2
Dodgers’ pitcher Kyante Wilson struck out seven of eight hitters at one point and finished with a four-hit complete-game win.
Wilson wound up with 13 strikeouts.
The top half of the Dodgers’ batting order did most of the destruction. Wilson, Skylar Sheldon and Cory Plummer each had two hits and combined to score six of their club’s nine runs.
The Red Sox’sLindner collected two hits, two stolen bases and scored a run.
Giants 18, Yankees 14
The Yankees came back to force a 12-12 tie after trailing 9-1 after two innings.
But Gibson had two hits during a six-run fifth inning as the Giants regained control. Kaassamani had three hits and scored three times for the Giants, while Gibson, Sexton and David Sando delivered two hits.
Craig Levine and Randy Hutton led the Yankees with three hits apiece. Two of Hutton’s went for extra bases (triple and double). Kyle Rossi and Spencer Harnett added two hits to the Yankees’ attack.
Dodgers 10, Yankees 0
Sheldon threw a two-hit shutout and Plummer rapped three hits, scored three runs and knocked in three for the unbeaten Dodgers.
Sheldon finished with 10 strikeouts, including the side in the final inning.
Wilson socked two hits, including a triple, for the Dodgers.
Red Sox 14, Angels 13
Noll’s solo homer and Lindner’s run later in the fifth inning proved to be pivotal runs after the Angels exploded for five runs in the final inning.
Noll and McKeen each had three hits and scored three runs for the Red Sox. Joe Albrecht clutchly delivered three hits and scored two runs and Lindner and Kyle Moreno pinged out a couple of hits.
The Angels sent 11 hitters to the plate in the final inning – highlighted by Kyle Miller’s triple – before Red Sox reliever Jason Rogers closed the door, leaving the bases loaded.
Young slugged three doubles and scored three Angels’ runs, while Miller and Dill drilled a pair of hits.
Giants 3, A’s 2
Jommie Smith knocked in Sexton with the deciding run with one out in the sixth inning.
The clutch hit made a winner out of Giants’ pitcher Gibson, who retired 10 of the 11 hitters he faced. All three of the A’s hits came in the first two innings – one of which was a double by Loftis.
The Giants’ Eymann went 3 for 3 with a triple and a run scored.
