Burtner leads Vans halfpipe qualifying

The final leg of the Vans Triple Crown of Snowboarding lifted off Thursday morning at Sierra-at-Tahoe.

Jessie Burtner led men’s big air qualifying with a 27.3 in the Ford Ranger North American Championships.

Rounding out the top five were Rahm Klampert, Louie Fountain, Sam Dayton and Justin Dega. The top 30 riders from Thursday join 20 prequalified boarders for Sunday’s finals.

Women’s superpipe qualifying opens Friday at 8:40 a.m. as well as women’s big air qualifying at 1:30 p.m. Men’s superpipe qualifying (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) highlights Saturday’s action. Superpipe and big air finals for both men and women are on tap for Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
