Caesars’ boxing card changes

Tribune staff report

Former World Boxing Organization champion Carlos “Bolillo” Gonzalez of Mexico City has an injured elbow and will not fight at Caesars Tahoe on September 27.

Replacing Gonzalez in the 10-round main event against Hector “Canonero” Quiroz will be once-beaten Jaime Ocegueda.

“We lose a great marquee matchup, but we still have a good card,” said John Beyrooty, director of Public Relations for Forum Boxing.

Ocegueda, 28, is 17-1-4 with eight knockouts and is unbeaten in his last nine bouts. The Artesia, Calif., resident is a hardworking boxer who punches in bunches and comes to fight.

Quiroz, 22, of Sonora, Mexico, is 22-2-1 with 20 knockouts and is coming off a 10-round draw with Joey Negron. He’s the former North American Boxing Organization 140-pound champion.

The 12-round semi-main event remains intact, as NABO featherweight champ Juan Manuel Marquez (21-1, 15 KOs) defends against Vince Howard (14-3-2, 6 KOs).
