Some of the top high school senior basketball players, including South Tahoe’s Vince Capellino, gathered for one final game Tuesday night in Fallon.
Capellino scored 14 points in the Silver’s 94-82 loss to the Blue in the ninth annual Fallon Optimist All-Star Classic.
“I played a little at point. I was probably our best ball handler, so I ran it up a couple times,” Capellino said.
Damonte Ranch’s Kelton Hall, who will play football for Nevada in the fall, led the Silver with 20 points, including three three-point baskets.
The Silver, however, had trouble slowing down Duke-bound Olek Czyz. The 6-foot, 10-inch center from state champion Reno High scored 32 points. Capellino, who measures 6-6, took a few turns guarding Czyz.
“That was pretty fun. It gave me more of a challenge,” Capellino said.
Czyz was supported by teammates Jeff Nady of Douglas and point guard Omarri Williams of Reed.
In the girls’ all-star game, balanced scoring helped give the Silver team a 69-65 win over Blue. Shanice Martin of Hug High scored 13 points and provided a spark with assists and defense.
Kara Stock of Bishop Manogue scored 12, and Langley Iverson of Galena tallied 11, while Kayla Williams of Reed was the only Blue player to score in double figures. Williams will play at Nevada next season.
