D’Angelo, Yure contend for state berths

The South Tahoe High golf team found itself in last place after the first day of the 4A Northern regional championship, but Dan D’Angelo and Alex Yure have a shot to make the state tournament as individuals.
D’Angelo shot an 80 and Yure an 81 at Wolf Run Golf Course in Reno on Monday. The two best teams will qualify for the state finals, with five additional spots open to the best individuals from the remaining six teams. D’Angelo’s sits in fifth place heading into Tuesday’s final round.
The Vikings shot 450 as a team, three shots behind seventh-place McQueen. Nate Alcorn shot a 91, Dylan Yuzbick a 94 and Kevin Fannan a 104, with Tom Mooney’s 115 thrown out of the team score.
Galena High led after the first round with a 397, with four teams within five shots of each other battling for second.
