Diana no-hits Hug

Chris Diana struck out 12 batters and pitched a complete-game no-hitter to lead the South Tahoe baseball team to a 10-0 Sierra Division victory over Hug Thursday at Todd Fields. The game ended in the sixth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Stephen Yarrow went 2 for 3 with two triples and three RBI, while Ian Rice was 3 for 4 with two RBI. Diana also had a hit and an RBI.

South Tahoe (7-20 overall, 3-16 division) concludes the season with a doubleheader against Hug on Saturday at Todd Fields. The first game is at 1 p.m.

WHS softball cancels

The Whittell softball team had to cancel Friday’s Northern 2A doubleheader at Lovelock because three of its players must take an advanced placement history test. Since the Warriors have only 11 players on their roster, they couldn’t field a starting lineup against the Mustangs.

Whittell finishes the regular season 5-12 overall and 2-6 in league. The Warriors will be the No. 4 seed at next week’s Northern 2A Regional Tournament.

STHS JV baseball rolls

Garrett Kankel went 2 for 3 with a home run and also recorded the win on the mound in the Vikings’ 11-0 win over Hug on Thursday at Todd Fields. Chris Simonian went 2 for 3 with a home run, Kyle Lipscomb 3 for 3 and Chris Klug 2 for 2 for the Vikings, who close out the season with a doubleheader against the Hawks on Saturday.
