Disc Golf and Beach Volleyball

Tribune staff reports

The inaugural co-disc golf/beach volleyball tournament called Disc & Dig is hitting the shores of Zephyr Cove June 1-2.

The two-day tournament conceived by Mike Plansky is a day and a half of beach volleyball at Zephyr Cove Resort, and a half day of disc golf at Zephyr Cove Park, just across Highway 50.

Teams of 2-4 will first compete in a shortened double-elimination volleyball tournament for points on Saturday.

On Sunday, the same teams will play a round of disc golf.

During the midday barbecue, event organizers will combine points from each event to determine the top eight teams to play in the playoffs.

The playoffs consist of singe-elimination beach volleyball tournament and short rounds of disc golf.

The winners each day and the top eight overall winners will receive cash and prizes.

If you’re not in the playoffs, take heart. The competition isn’t over yet.

Remaining teams can play in a horseshoe tournament at the picnic area for a free dinner.

Plansky said more than two dozens sponsors have donated cash and/or prizes for the event. He’s expecting approximately 30-50 participants.

Registration prior to the day of the event is $35, same day is $40. The fee includes a T-shirt and pizza on Saturday night at Sam’s Place.

To sign up call Plansky at (775) 588-8071 or write to mikeplansky@yahoo.com.

The resort is at 625 Highway 50, in Marla Bay, about four miles north of Stateline.
