The Reno Aces gave up 14 runs on 13 hits in Sunday’s 14-7 loss to the Sacramento River Cats.

Starting pitcher Lucas Harrell’s record moved to 4-2 as he gave up nine runs on eight hits with four walks in just 2.2 innings. A total of seven Reno pitchers combined for the loss.

“He was terrible” was all manager Phil Nevin had to say about Harrell’s outing.

Sacramento jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning and added one in the second.

Reno got on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single from Bobby Wilson.

A comeback looked promising in the fifth inning when Danny Dorn and Alfredo Marte had RBI singles and Andy Marte drove in two to make the score 13-7, but both teams were held nearly scoreless for the rest of the game.

The final run came off a passed ball from Kevin Munson in the seventh that scored Sacramento’s Alden Carrithers from third.

“I thought we battled great. You know it’s tough to get down with those big deficits early but I thought they all played hard. I thought they battled to get back in it, the energy level in the dugout stayed up,” said Nevin. “When you’re down eight or nine that early in a game it makes it pretty difficult.”

Reno’s seven runs came off 15 hits, the first time the team has gone on to lose when collecting that many hits. Alfredo Marte had two total RBIs in the game and Argenis Diaz recorded one.

After losing the first game and winnings the second game of the series, Reno now falls to 3.5 games behind Sacramento in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern standings.
