Early start for WHS, STHS football teams

Tribune Staff Reports

Mike Evans has had a very busy day, and it doesn’t look like there will by much leisure time in the next few months.

When he’s not teaching or meeting with his coaching staff, or directing weight training or conditioning with George Whittell High School’s football team, Evans plans to travel to his opponents’ games to catch some first- hand scoop on what it will take for the Warriors to take the upper hand.

The Warriors begin their first offensive practice today from 8:30-11 a.m., and then again with the defense from 1-3:30 p.m. at Whittell.

Similarly, South Tahoe High School’s football team starts its season at 8 a.m. with paperwork, then a practice for the varsity from 8-10 a.m. The junior varsity takes to the field at 10 a.m. and the frosh team at noon.

The Vikings meet Galena for a scrimmage on Aug. 24. The following week all three teams will scrimmage Wooster starting at 11 a.m.

Whittell’s first scrimmage is Aug. 24 at noon at Pershing County High School.
