Ex-STHS coach leads team into section final

Former South Tahoe High boys’ basketball coach Tom Orlich continued his mastery of the California Central Section on Tuesday.

Orlich’s Clovis West Golden Eagles advanced to the section championship game by defeating Central 59-46 in Clovis. A 13-0 fourth-quarter run by Clovis West broke open a two-point game.

Orlich delivered two state, 17 division and nine regional titles during a 25-year tenure at STHS. Since arriving at Clovis West in 2002-03, he has led the Golden Eagles to six straight Tri-River Athletic Conference titles.

The Golden Eagles (25-5) will play in their fourth Central Section Championship game in five years on Saturday night. Clovis West will meet Clovis East at 8 p.m. at Selland Arena in Fresno.
