Fago’t faces fellow No. 2 seed in quarterfinals

South Tahoe High’s Jon Fago’t road to the state title begins on Friday against Sierra Vista’s Shane Slade in the quarterfinals of the Nevada 4A state tournament at Cimarron-Memorial High School in Las Vegas.

Fago’t, the No. 2 seed from the Northern region in the 215-pound weight class, brings a 26-9 record into the match. Slade is the No. 2 seed from the Sunset region. Fago’t is trying to become the first STHS wrestler since Scott Milbrodt in 1988 to win a state title.

The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday. The nine-wrestler bracket, which includes a pigtail match on Friday morning, will be whittled to six by Saturday afternoon.
