Fago’t named to Northern 4A wrestling’s first team
Jon Fago’t has only been wrestling two years, but that hasn’t kept the South Tahoe junior from establishing himself as one of the area’s best.
Fago’t, who qualified for the Nevada 4A state tournament after his runner-up finish at the Northern 4A regional tournament, was named to the Northern 4A first team.
He joins Damonte Ranch’s David Belardes on the all-region team at 215 pounds. Belardes defeated Fago’t in the regional championship match.
“This stuff isn’t as suspenseful in wrestling as it is in other sports, but it’s definitely a big accomplishment for a junior,” said STHS wrestling coach Ken Robbins. “Going into next season, every year is a new battle. Jon knows that there are a lot of kids working to get his spot, and he’s taking that to heart. But he’s a little ahead of everybody right now and hopefully he works hard to stay ahead of them.”
Fago’t went 26-11 this season and is expected to contend for a state title next season as a senior. Scott Milbrodt was South Tahoe’s last state champion (1988).
Galena’s Doug Del Porto was named the region’s lower weights wrestler of the year (103-130 pounds), Fallon’s Trevor DeBraga the middle weights wrestler of the year (135-160 pounds) and Reed’s Brandon Gebhardt as the upper weights wrestler of the year (171-275 pounds). Spanish Springs’ Joe Imelli was voted coach of the year.
