Final Little League sign-up Thursday
The final registration for the South Tahoe Little League baseball season is Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kahle Community Center.
The cost is $85 for players 8 and under and $95 for boys and girls 9 to 12. Players should bring a birth certificate to registration.
Adults desiring to manage either a major or minor team must fill out a form during Thursday’s registration.
If parents can’t make it to Thursday’s registration, they can sign up their kids at tahoelittleleague.com or at one of three tryout dates.
Players who didn’t play at the major level last year or those desiring to play in the minors must attend an upcoming tryout: 6-9 p.m. March 20 or March 22 at Whittell High School, or either the 8:45 a.m. or 12:45 p.m. session March 25 at South Tahoe High’s blue gym. Players are advised to bring a hat, glove and tennis shoes.
There is a tune-up clinic for 9- to 12-year-olds from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the blue gym at STHS.
Prep skiing championships canceled
Monday’s torrential rainfall wiped out the Tahoe Basin League Championships on Tuesday at Alpine Meadows.
The league championships won’t be made up.
South Tahoe High’s boys won the previous race at Diamond Peak.
“(Vikings’ coach) Todd McIntyre did a great job of getting the kids together and building the team,” said Mike Shreve, an assistant coach.
One South Tahoe skier participated in last weekend’s Nevada state championships. Since Lake Tahoe Unified School District didn’t have classes last week, only Kim Smith was available to compete. Smith placed ninth overall.
ASA softball sign-ups Thursday
Parents can register their children for the South Tahoe ASA Softball League on Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Kahle Community Center.
The fast-pitch league is for girls and boys ages 5 to 16. The season begins the first week of May runs through the end of June.
