First Disc-Wood tourney opens Saturday

One of the toughest tests in disc golf will unfold in the first Disc-Wood tournament Saturday and Sunday at Kirkwood Ski Resort.

The third event in the Lake Tahoe Series is open to professionals and amateurs.

“Come out and play disc golf at 8,000 feet. Whatever your disc does normally, it will exaggerate,” said Disc-Wood tournament director Dan Thrift. “It’s a physicall challenging course.”

Participants will play two 18-hole rounds Saturday and conclude with an 18-hole round Sunday. First-place amateurs and pros receive trophies. Additional placers in the amateur divisions receive discs, while pros earn cash.

Players can still register from 3 p.m. to dark Friday at the course. Play starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday following an 8:15 a.m. players’ meeting. Lunch and beverages will be available.

Entry fees are $65 for pros, $55 for masters and advanced players, $45 for amateurs and $35 for juniors.
