Freshman wins first match

Tribune Staff Report

Score one for the Viking youngsters.

Freshman tennis player Brian McCloud won his first career singles match, a victory that pushed South Tahoe to a narrow 12-10 over Incline on Thursday in South Lake Tahoe. Sophomore Chris Stamey and freshman Andy Mora also teamed to take a decisive doubles match from the No. 2 position.

“The young kids stepped it up a notch,” said Tahoe coach Pat Fagen, whose team moved to 4-6.

On the girls side, the Vikings’ doubles teams swept all of their matches, as the Vikings handled Incline, 15-7. Chrystal Hixenbaugh and Nikki Moore strengthened their claim as the team’s No. 1, losing just one of 19 games.

Jenny Olsen carried the singles players, taking two of three matches from the No. 3 spot. No. 2 Nicole Reneer added a solo win.

The girls match with Manogue last Tuesday was postponed. No makeup date has been confirmed.
