SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Andrew Herrera took to the mat on Sunday, Oct. 4, and delivered a championship. Herrera won the title at the Wild West Folkstyle Preseason Showdown held at Natomas High, besting wrestlers in a heavyweight division en route to the crown.

After advancing with a first round forfeit, Herrera raced out to an 11-1 lead prior to pinning Dark Horse Wrestling Club’s Gunnar Gardener. In the championship, the South Tahoe junior scored 13 points before pinning Mark Mendabayar of Inderkum (Sacramento) — the weight class featured 220- and 285-pound wrestlers.
