Holmes leads Vikings over Mustangs

Sophomore Alexis Holmes scored a game-high 12 points to lead the South Tahoe girls’ basketball team to a 36-27 Sierra League win on Thursday evening in Reno.

No other player scored in double figures for the Vikings, who improved to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. The Vikings led 23-17 at halftime.

Damonte Ranch (5-6 overall, 1-1 league) was led by Courtney Kollasch’s 10 points. South Tahoe plays at Argonaut (Calif.) in a nonleague game on Saturday 3:15 p.m.

STHS freshman upend Mustangs

The South Tahoe freshman boys’ basketball team used a 31-12 run during the second and third quarters to win its Sierra League opener 59-41 against Damonte Ranch on Thursday in South Lake Tahoe. The Vikings improved to 4-1.

Peter Pielaet-Strayer led STHS with 15 points. Blair Berry added 12 points, Kory DiGrande 10, Lee Espinosa eight and D.J. Dupuy seven.

Damonte takes care of STHS JV

Noble Lau had a team-high 10 points, while McQuade Brubaker and Robbin Charles both added six points apiece in the South Tahoe junior varsity boys’ basketball team’s 54-31Sierra League loss to Damonte Ranch on Thursday in Reno.
