Hooligans’ run ends

The South Tahoe Hooligan All-Star team’s run in the Reno American Tournament came to an end over the weekend.

On Friday, the Hooligans suffered their first loss of the tournament. They fell to Washoe Valley 8-2 before bouncing back in the loser’s bracket on Saturday.

The Hooligans came back on Saturday to beat Sparks American 3-1 behind a good pitching performance by both Patrick Lahlum and Brandon Hallum.

Hallum got the start on the mound and threw 5 1/3 innings of four-hit ball.

Lahlum came in and threw 2/3 of an inning, striking out two. Hallum fanned 10 in his outing.

The Hooligans were led by Ivan Trebotich and Kyle Mazzoni, who both went 1 for 2. Trebotich hit into a fielder’s choice and knocked in a run, while Mazzoni had a pair of RBIs.

On Sunday, the Hooligans fell to Reno National 6-5 in a close contest that came down to a fifth home run to decide the game.

“We played some exceptional baseball, but had a couple of key lapses during the game,” Hooligan manager Don Amaral said.

The Hooligan leading hitters for tournament were Trebotich and Ryan Lucia, while the defensive leaders were Michael Olivo and Mazzoni.

Although the tournament goes through Friday, the Hooligans placed sixth out of 14 teams.

The South Tahoe 9-10 All-Stars begin their play on July 7 in Sparks, while the 11-12 All-Star team opens play on July 8, also in Sparks.
