It takes a Village to beat A.M. Construction

The Village survived a five-run rally by A.M. Construction over the last two frames to win, 15-14, in city of South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Men’s D league softball action.

Reggie Swift scored what would be the determining run for the Village in the sixth inning. He finished with three singles and three runs. Jeff Smith tossed in a triple in three hits.

John Anderson and Bob Souers hit it four times each in the loss.

Straw Hat 28, Caesars 4

Rob Barrena had a smashing outing for Straw Hat, belting a bomb and two triples for seven RBIs. Paul Nielsen and John Hitchcock each added four hits and a pair of RBIs. DJ Silva, Sean Fleury and Victor Insera hit it three times apiece.

Hank Petit smacked two hits and three RBIs in the loss.

Zephyr Cove Resort 25, Paradise Taxi 8

Nine runs in the second inning spelled the end for Paradise. Chuck Shapiro hit one deep, had four basers and had three RBIs for Z.C.R., while Alex Flores added a trio of RBIs. Albert Paiz smacked four hits and Abel Martinez went yard.

Paul Williams drove in a pair for Paradise. Nathan Rice was a dinger short of the cycle.

Men’s 30 and Over

Placer Title 23, Forest Service 17

Can you say slugfest? Tied 4-4 after two innings, Placer pasted the scoreboard 11 times in the fifth inning, as 16 guys came to bat. TJ Eddy bashed a homer, triple and single while scoring three runs. Jim Kent, Dale McIntosh, Larry Finkel and Ken Kostelnik each added four hits.

Rod Meagher, Glen Roderick, Anthony Arroyo and Mike Guarino had a trio of basers each for Service.

Caesars 12, Sports Concern 10

Caesars scored five in the sixth inning and four times in the seventh, overcoming a 10-3 deficit to earn the win.

John Webb hit a pair of long balls for Caesars, while Mike Bush scored three and drove in two.

Craig Minkle and Dan Miller each went yard and singled for Concern. Dan McLaughlin added three base smacks.

SLT Realtors 19, Kerry David/Termite 6

The Realtors built upon a seven-run foundation with six in the fifth frame and another six in the sixth. Robert Ward smacked four hits and scored four times. Ted Xavier added a big fly and double for three RBIs.

Kirk David hit one far and drove in two for KD/T.
