Kashima is top gun in Far West

Heavenly’s Sho Kashima won the male title and Hannah Curtzwiler was the female runner-up at the Far West Freestyle Championships on Saturday at Squaw Valley.

On a steep and difficult course, Kashima scored 23.66 to outpoint his competitors around the lake. Teammate Jay Panther finished fifth with a judged score of 22.17.

In the girls’ division, Curtzwiler scored 16.90 for second place. Teammate Marina Palmieri was fifth at 14.64.

Three Heavenly competitors captured division championships: Kashima, senior division; Curtzwiler, J3; and Rebecca Roberts, J4.

Other Heavenly results were Savannah Amos, seventh overall and fourth J3, 12.37; Roberts, eighth overall and first J4, 12.32; Marshall Curtzwiler, 11th overall and fourth J2, 13.55; Brandon Hartstein, 14th overall and second J2, 12.04; Cory Noreikat, 15th overall and second J3, 11.93; and Yamato Kashima, 35th overall and eighth J3, 6.50.

Qualifying for the Junior Olymipcs March 14-18 in Park City, Utah, are Heavenly’s Kashima, Jimmy Roberts, Marshall Cutzwiler, Hannah Curtzwiler, Palmieri, Amos and Rebecca Roberts. Kashima, Jimmy Roberts, Hannah Curtzwiler and Palmieri have qualified in both dual mogu’s and singles, while Marshall Curtzwiler, Amos and Rebecca Roberts will compete in dual moguls.
