Maybe the Winter Olympics had something to do with the turnout.

Sixty-six young racers age 6 and under competed in the second Kinder Kup race of 2006 on Sunday at Heavenly Mountain Resort. There were even a couple of 2-year-olds who raced down the mountain.

Children who placed in the top 15 received points toward the overall championship. Overall champions are determined as are the trophy-winning top 3 in both genders after the third race.

Posting top-3 three results in the girls’ race were Abby Norton, Madison Idso and Emily Donahue. Norton’s two-run winning time was 43.46 seconds. Isidro was inside 5 seconds in back of the winner.

Norton also won the first race and leads the standings with 50 points. Idso and Donahue are tied for second with 35 points apiece.

In the boys’ class, Cole Harrity and Payton Norton traded positions from the previous race as Harrity took first in 40.24 seconds, while Payton was runner-up in 43.19. Both racers have 45 points with one event remaining.

Gordon Cruz finished third in 44.34 and holds down third place in the overall standings with 30 points.

Rounding out the girls’ top 10 were Drue Chapman, Jennie Symons, Anna Hudson, Paige Hourigan, Cheyanne Holland, Kylie Greeno and Daniela Moroz.

Completing the boys’ top 10 were Max Wingard, Casey Leffers, Hiroki Trominaga, Mason Schmidt, Jasper Donnely, Dawson Smith and Caden Cutter.
