Kingman homers in loss

Jared Green

The Dayton Dust Devils hit ’em where they weren’t and the Whittell Warriors didn’t, leading to a 20-7 Dayton win on Thursday in Gardnerville.

The Dust Devils pounded three Whittell pitchers over five innings. Whittell junior Anna Kingman launched a three-run homer in the first inning, but it was all downhill from there for the Warriors (11-11 overall).

Vikings ready for playoffs

The South Tahoe High golf team Thursday had its worst finish in league play this season but retained the eighth and final regional playoff spot heading into next week’s regular-season finale.

The Vikings shot 442 to tie for ninth place at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko. Alex Yure led the team with an 80, while Dan D’Angelo shot 84.

South Tahoe has a 4 1/2-point edge over ninth-place Spanish Springs High for the last playoff berth, so Spanish Springs must beat the Vikings by five places on Thursday.
