Kokanee ends season winless

Michael Traum

The Lake Tahoe Community College women’s volleyball team concluded its season with a pair of losses last weekend at Butte and Lassen.

The Kokanee fell to Butte, 5-15, 8-15, 4-15, and to Lassen, 12-15, 11-15, 15-13, 12-15, to end the season at 0-12.

Sophomores Jen Plummer and Darcie Williams led the Kokanee, according to coach Cheryl Vanos-Embry.

“They held the team together as captains and played their hearts out. I’ll be sad to see them go,” she said.

Plummer was awarded honorable mention honors by the Golden Valley Conference.

Despite the record, Vanos-Embry remains dedicated to improving the team and hopes to continue to establish the program in the volleyball community.

“We ended on a very positive note, with the kids playing hard. They hung in there and worked together. I’m hoping they return to keep the unity and we should have a strong base for next year,” she said.

Vanos-Embry plans to sponsor a community clinic early next summer along with offering winter and spring conditioning, playing classes and tournaments.

“Next year is our year. We have hard-working kids and a consistent program is going to happen. This has to be a year-round thing,” Vanos-Embry said.
