Last-minute Boulder City win for Whittell

Steve Yingling

Bryce Schussel’s goal with 5 minutes remaining lifted Whittell High to a 3-2 Nevada 3A boys soccer victory over Boulder City on Saturday.

Whittell trailed 1-0 at halftime, but found the missing ingredients during intermission.

“We just weren’t very aggressive to start the game. We came out very flat,” said Whittell coach Steve Maltase. “In the second half we came out with a lot more intensity and dictated the tempo of the game.”

Quick goals by Todd Echan (header) and Phil Barnes (crossing play) moved the Warriors ahead, but Boulder City pulled even with 15 minutes left.

The Warriors, 14-6 overall and 6-3 in division play, must beat Incline on Saturday in Incline Village to make the state tournament.
