Local racers fare well in Far West events

Local youth ski racers fared well at a recent Far West event at Heavenly Ski Resort.

Heavenly Foundation’s Cory Harris skied to eighth and 11th places in the J3 category. Chris McKean was 7th and 22nd; Ben Johnson, 24th and 29th; Sean Weatherspoon, 31st and 34th; Troy Denkler, 47th and 52nd; and Patrick Flanagan, 62nd and 70th. On the girls side, Shayna Gianelli was 10th. Sierra’s Chris Little was ninth. Kirkwood’s Matt Savage was 21st and 45th; Patrick Sargent, 26th twice; and Michael Champ, 62nd.

Meanwhile in a Far West mogul competition on Squaw Valley’s Red Dog run on Sunday, Heavenly Foundation’s Joi Gallant finished a career-best third among females. Her score was 18.15.

Gallant’s Heavenly teammates also fared well. Their results were: Ryan Hickey, seventh overall, first J-3, 23.16; Jonathon Strohm, eighth, fourth J-2, 21.56; Jason Scott, 10th, second J-3, 20.37; Derek Dimitri, 13th, third J-3, 19.91; Tyler Bradford, 22nd, sixth J-3, 17.00; Jerel Dutton, 26th, first J-5, 14.99; Thomas Schwindeman, 29th, third J-4, 14.67; Brent Abrams, 39th, eighth J-4, 10.42; and Brad Lipovsky, 45th, 11th J-4, 9.46.
