South Shore’s baseball future is looking bright.

Two South Tahoe underclassmen, junior Dominic Diana and sophomore Jordan Mann, were named to the All-State baseball roster as well as first team All-League roster. Six more South Tahoe players joined Diana and Mann on the All-League team. Four of those players were first team material.

“Our team was well represented and it’s something everyone can be proud of,” South Tahoe coach Starbuck Teevan said. “The season didn’t end how we would have liked it to, but we look forward to the challenges ahead.”

The Whittell baseball team was well represented too. Four Warriors made the All-League cut, three on first team — pitcher Cody Gibson, shortstop Robbie Poet and catcher Matt Elliott. Elliott, also a strong starting pitcher for the Warriors, landed a spot among the best in state on All-State second team.

South Tahoe’s Diana and Mann were both named to the Division I-A All-State second team and All-League first team as well.

Diana held down the infield at shortstop and occasionally took the mound this season, but it was his bat that really set him apart. The junior led the Vikings with a .423 batting average and a .619 slugging percentage. He recorded 41 hits, 40 RBI, 11 triples and also contributed seven innings of pitching that left him with a 3.00 ERA.

Mann finished the season with a 3.50 ERA. The sophomore struck out 57 batters over 46 innings and tossed three shutouts. He also contributed a .253 batting average with 15 RBI.

South Tahoe seniors Tyler Sharp and Christian Coats joined Mann and Diana on the All-League first team roster, Sharp for his work as an infielder and Coats as a DH and utility player.

Sharp’s clutch hitting recorded him 37 RBI this season on a .337 batting average. He blasted three home runs and was also a key piece to the Vikings’ starting rotation. The senior recorded a 4.72 ERA in 56 innings pitched.

Coats was a big part of South Tahoe’s pitching success. The senior was a smart catcher who also blasted .351 at the plate, complete with 18 RBI.

“Obviously I am very happy for these young men,” Teevan said. “They worked hard throughout the season and their efforts paid off.”

South Tahoe sophomore River Quinn, junior Sergio Burgueno and senior Cody Higgins all made second team All-League. Junior Kolby Eymann earned honorable mention.

Whittell’s freshman second baseman Chris Evans made second team All-League.
