A select group of softball girls can now call themselves South Shore’s best.

All totaled, South Tahoe and Whittell high schools landed 24 players on the Mount Rose All-League roster. The Vikings snagged 13 spots, with six of those players earning first team honors. The Warriors claimed 11 spots, with seven on first team and one MVP.

Whittell’s Brianna Brewer took top honors. The senior was voted Division III Mount Rose MVP. Brewer boasted a .500 batting average this season with 27 RBI, four home runs, four triples and six doubles. She also maintained a .956 fielding average.

South Tahoe junior Kaila Griffis was named first team catcher, and just narrowly missed the Division I-A MVP title. Griffis batted a .500 and notched 33 RBI and four home runs this season.

“Kaila was a hard worker and a smart catcher,” said South Tahoe coach Steve Kolesnik.

Along with Griffis, South Tahoe’s second base Bailey David, outfielder Brittany Sanchez, pitcher and first base Emily Gardner, third base Brittany Harper and pitcher Hannah Neiger were also named to the first team.

Along with Brewer, Whittell’s pitcher Amanda Harris, catcher Emily Harris, infielder Gianna Miller, outfielder Kendall Ferris and infielders Nicki Simon and Sarah Tencher were also named to first team.

As for South Tahoe’s first-team honorees, Kolesnik said David earned first team through her passion and determination at second base. David batted .369 with 11 RBI.

Gardner was athletic and energetic, the coach added. The senior batted .358 with 24 RBI.

Harper adapted to her new position at third base, and showed she had some offensive power to match. She put up a .409 batting average and 27 RBI.

Neiger worked hard and improved greatly in the circle. She batted .392 with 23 RBI. The junior will be a force to be reckoned with on the mound next year, and Sanchez was a defensive wall in the outfield. She batted .350 with 14 RBI.

“Sanchez played through pain and injuries all season and always had a good attitude,” Kolesnik said.

Whittell’s first teamers put up some impressive numbers this year and took the Warriors into the second round of playoffs.

Whittell starter Amanda finished the season with a 1.92 ERA after 24 starts. She also carried a .373 batting average with 19 RBI and a .902 fielding percentage.

Emily was a force behind home plate for the Warriors. The senior catcher posted a .400 batting average with 24 RBI, 12 doubles and a .973 fielding percentage.

Miller finished the season with a .405 batting average, 30 hits, a team-high 22 stolen bases and .864 in the field. Ferris notched a .239 average with nine RBI and a .833 fielding percentage. Simon boasted a .208 batting average with 11 RBI and .919 fielding percentage. Tencher held a .239 batting average with nine RBI.

“I am so proud of these young ladies,” said Whittell coach Dave Galicia. “It is an honor to be their coach.”
