Wednesday SUP races return to Lakeview Commons

The weekly Wednesday paddleboard races, hosted by South Tahoe Standup Paddle, will kick off Wed., May 29 at Lakeview Commons. Registration opens at 5:30 p.m., followed by a brief riders meeting at 6:15 p.m. and the race at 6:30 p.m. Racers of all ages and ability levels are welcome to register for $20, which also includes a fully-catered dinner spread, some sweet trophies and swag.

South Tahoe Standup Paddle owner Chris Brackett has created new trophies this year and expects the race to be better than ever. Brackett is offering $15 board rentals to all racers, and encourages new paddlers to sign up for a mini lesson sometime before the race to get a feel for paddling. He also said, don’t stress the race times. Wednesday night paddle races are all about having fun. Racers usually finish anywhere from 25 minutes to one hour.

Soccer League car wash fundraiser

Soccer players from the South Tahoe Soccer League will be holding a car wash fundraiser on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Quick Lube. The players are hoping the proceeds will help cover a new $300 fee each team was asked to pay this year. Players are worried they are in jeopardy of losing the season. The league would like to thank Quick Lube owner Rich Elder for hosting the car wash.

South Tahoe to hold cheer and dance team tryouts

Don’t miss the South Tahoe High School cheer and dance team tryouts, which will be held Friday at 5:30 p.m. in South Tahoe’s Blue Gym.

All potential cheerleaders and dancers must fill out fall athletic clearance paperwork. Incoming freshmen must have a physical and concussion test. Concussion tests can be done online at home.

Please turn in paperwork at South Tahoe High School with proof of physical and concussion test when you sign in at the gym.

Game Time Basketball Camp comes to Tahoe

Basketball camp directing “phenom,” coach Gil Llewellyn, will share his basketball knowledge with the Tahoe youth.

The camp is open to boys and girls of all ability levels, ages 6 through 18. Llewellyn, along with a top coaching staff, will emphasis ball handling and shooting skills, court awareness, defense and many other hoop skills.

The summer ball handling and shooting camp will be held at South Tahoe High School on June 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. Parents may drop players off earlier, starting at 8:30 a.m.
