The South Tahoe boys golf team opened its 2016 season on the road with a pair of matches last week. The Vikings returned to the links with Div. I-A Northern League matches at Fernley Golf Course on March 8 and Dayton Golf Course on March 9, and stand in sixth place after the season-opening contests.

South Tahoe made its debut March 8 in Fernley, and shot a 496 to place sixth. Andru Aquino led the Vikings with an 85, finishing in double digits along with Cody Pakes (97).

At Fernley, Jacob Feliciano (103), Mickey Sullivan (105) and Connor Molesworth (106) rounded out the Vikings’ top five. Spring Creek shot a 444 to win the match, led by Mason Adams’ 82.

The following day in Dayton, the Vikings again finished sixth and shot a 543. Molesworth carded a team-best 95 and was South Tahoe’s only sub-100 scorer.

At Dayton, Pakes shot a 107 for South Tahoe while Sorenson (111), Aquino (115) and Sullivan (115) also scored. Spring Creek won the match with a 424, and Spartans’ golfer Trevor Stannard shot the top score of 80.

South Tahoe returned to action Wednesday, March 16, at Winnemucca Golf Course. After that, the Vikings have a month-long break before playing again April 14.
