SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The South Tahoe boys soccer team lost its season opener in painful fashion Thursday, Aug. 25. The Vikings fell to North Valleys (Reno, Nev.) 1-0 at Viking Stadium, losing their debut on a last-minute goal.

South Tahoe (0-1) struggled to generate scoring chances in Thursday’s match but defended well enough to earn a draw. Four minutes into extra time, North Valleys (1-0) struck with a goal from Manny Carrillo — the forward pounced on a rebound following a Panthers free kick to deliver the game-winner.

The Vikings return to action at home Friday, Sept. 2, for a non-league game against Carson (Carson City, Nev.). Kickoff at Viking Stadium is scheduled for 5 p.m.
