Homecoming game this weekend

The South Tahoe High School Vikings football team is hosting its annual homecoming game this Friday night under the lights of the newly remodeled Viking Bowl Stadium.

The junior varsity game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. and the varsity kickoff is at 6 p.m. instead of the usual 7 p.m. The student body homecoming dance it the same evening.

All students, families, alumni and community members are invited to attend.

The South Tahoe football team continued to show signs of improvement, but couldn’t snag the win on Friday.

The Vikings put up a fight before falling 33-20 to Wooster Friday night.

The Vikings turned around a tough start. Wooster scored in the first four minutes of the game to take a 7-0 lead.

The Vikings were then saddled with back-to-back holding calls that pushed them to first-and-28 on their own 20.

But South Tahoe turned it around.

The boys started marching the ball downfield. When the Vikings were within striking distance, quarterback Jared Fajman tried a quarterback sneak, but Wooster held him off.

Dylan Gardner finally punched in the Vikings’ first touchdown on fourth-and-goal at the second-yard line.

“Dylan ran hard the who game. He always does,” athletic director Doug Russell. “He worked hard for his yards and held onto the ball.”

The Vikings then went on another long drive that ate up a bunch of clock and Gardner ran in a five-yard touchdown to tie the game at 13-13.

Wooster’s Foa Sofara, however, was unstoppable. Behind his long touchdown runs the Colts were leading 20-13 at halftime.

“The guys are playing hard in the first half,” Russell said. “When they tackle they are staying in the game.”

Sofara busted a 60-yard touchdown run to open the third quarter and lengthen Wooster’s lead to two possessions.

When South Tahoe got the ball back it retaliated. Fajman snuck in the ball for the Vikings’ third touchdown.

UP NEXT: South Tahoe (0-5) returns home on Friday with rumors of a transfer quarterback just in time for homecoming against Dayton (1-4) at 6 p.m.
