Tahoe Icemen swept by Butte in last home series
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The Tahoe Icemen hockey team skated on home ice for the last time in the 2015-16 season last weekend, and couldn’t halt its losing streak. The Icemen were swept by Butte in a three-game series at South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena Feb. 19-21, extending their winless streak to 18 games.
After failing to score in the series opener Friday, Feb. 19, en route to an 11-0 defeat, Tahoe got on the board in the second game of the set. The Icemen scored in the second period Saturday, Feb. 20, in an eventual 7-1 loss to Butte.
Zach Houck scored Tahoe’s first goal of the series late in the second period Saturday. With the Icemen on a 5-on-3 power play, Houck found the back of the net off assists from Maksim Akimychau and Colton Langowski — that made it 4-1, but the Cobras responded with three goals unanswered to win going away.
In the series finale Sunday, Feb. 21, Tahoe lost 13-1 as Butte completed the sweep. Taylor Garner accounted for the Icemen’s lone goal in their last home game of the season, scoring off assists from Garrett Boehm and Phillipe Pepin.
Tahoe (2-44) has two road series remaining to wrap up its campaign. The Icemen play at Seattle this weekend, Feb. 26-28, before concluding their season at Whitefish March 4-6.
