Vikings take a swing at cancer

South Shore golfers will hit the fairway from sunup to sundown today for a good cause.

The Eighth annual Longest Day of Golf, hosted by The Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe, will be held on the Tahoe Paradise Golf Course, which was generously donated on Wednesday in an effort to raise funds for the South Tahoe Cancer League.

Golfers will start at sunup and play as many holes as they can before sundown. The golfers usually play about 120 holes, and during the past seven years have raised more than $50,000 for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League. The funds are used to help cancer patients in our own community.

Golfers include well-known locals Tahoe Valley Elementary School teacher, Greg Kuntz, and Sierra-at-Tahoe general manager, John Rice. Kuntz’s students at Tahoe Valley have raised thousands of dollars for this charity over the past several years.

“This year, we’re shooting to beat the $1,800 mark we set,” Kuntz said.

Joining them will be South Tahoe High School golfers Connor Shaw and Kybur Oberhaus, along with coach Nathan Crnich

Join the effort by making per hole or flat-dollar amount pledges for this year’s golfers.

Contact Kuntz at or Crnich at or via phone at 707-498-5519 to donate.
