LTCC women win 5th in a row, lead GVC
Zareli Villa scored two first-half goals and three different players scored in the second half Friday afternoon as the Lake Tahoe Community College women’s soccer team remained undefeated in Golden Valley Conference play with a 5-0 win over rival Feather River College at Coyote Stadium.
Melanie Ara, Brooke King and Rebecca Niblett each scored in the second half for the Lady Coyotes, who outshot the Golden Eagles 31-2 and recorded their fifth consecutive win and sixth win in the last seven games. Feather River defended most of the game and never threatened Lake Tahoe’s defense and keeper Claudia Janese, who recorded her ninth shutout of the season.
“We weren’t the sharpest or most clinical in front of the net today, which was discouraging for the players because they did all the hard stuff and yet just didn’t have that precision with their final decision in the box,” said Coyotes head coach Jeremy Evans. “I could tell it was frustrating them. The bright side is we consistently broke their defense down and generated those chances, so I am confident we will get sharper in that final third. Credit to Feather River’s keeper, though, she had a wonderful game and helped keep the score quite respectable because it could’ve been a lot worse.”
The Coyotes (8-2-3 overall, 4-0 GVC), who have outscored conference opponents 28-0 this season, traveled Tuesday (after press deadline) to play second-place College of Redwoods in Redding.
