Lynch won’t golf with the stars

Football may gotten the better of John Lynch’s golf game.

The 15-year NFL veteran free safety pulled out of the American Century Championship late last week.

Lynch, who played the past three seasons with the Denver Broncos and is a Stanford alum, was set to play in the ACC for the first time. No official reason for Lynch’s withdrawal was available at press time.

The Broncos were scheduled to start a minicamp today.

Former Broncos’ quarterbacks John Elway and Steve Beuerlein and head coach Mike Shanahan are still part of the 80-player field for the 54-hole tournament that begins Friday at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Tolliver, Fuhr get head start

Several celebrities scheduled tee times for today, getting a jump on the field.

Two-time champion Billy Joe Tolliver is scheduled to tee off at 2:30 p.m. He will be preceded by actor/comedian Kevin Nealon (7:30 a.m.) and retired NHL goalie Grant Fuhr (2 p.m.)

Official practice rounds begin on Tuesday at 7 a.m. Fans can watch official practice rounds Tuesday and Wednesday for $10.

Discounted tickets available

Spectators can purchase discounted ACC tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s play at Raley’s Supermarkets.

The tickets, which are regularly priced at $20, will be on sale for $18 through Friday. Ticket prices will be discounted to $15 for anyone who purchases $50 or more of groceries.
